About Doug Filler
Before describing who I am and what I have accomplished in my life, I should begin by stating what I am not. I am not a politician and have never previously run for public office, but I have always been passionately involved in the world of politics. It is my personal belief that we all have the obligation to become fully familiar with the most important issues of the day, and vigorously support those positions with which we agree.
In the present economic downturn, our jobs, homes, family security and retirement savings are all uppermost on our minds:
- As a retiree, I worry about the falling investment markets and their effect on our family’s financial wellbeing;
- As a husband, I want to be certain that my wife and I can continue to afford the lifestyle we are currently enjoying in retirement;
- As the father of two married daughters, we anxiously watch the potential impact of the troubled job market on their, and their husbands’, careers;
- As the grandfather of two boys and two girls (ages 9-15), I am deeply concerned about our ability to adequately fund local school systems and therefore the quality of education they can provide to the next generation.
For these reasons, and many others, I am running for the position of Stafford County Supervisor to help secure the future for all of our citizens.
My 40-year working career in medical publishing and information services included over 25 years as President of Communications Media for Education, Inc., an internationally recognized leader in this field, which I founded in 1978. The lifelong lessons I have learned as the owner of a small business are never far from my mind.
Following my retirement in 2004, my wife Dee and I came to Falmouth to be closer to one of our two married daughters, her husband and their two children, who live in Springfield. Our younger daughter, her husband and their two children are residents of Bedford, Massachusetts.
In Falmouth, I have been actively involved in our local Neighborhood Watch program. I also served for over 2 ˝ years as a member of our community’s Modifications Committee, reviewing residents’ applications to make improvements to their homes’ landscaping, plantings and outside structures, which included one year as the Committee Chairman.
Drawing upon the many personal and professional experiences outlined above, and my determination to continue to build on Stafford County’s many unique advantages, I look forward to having the opportunity to make a positive difference for all of our residents.
